Changes in Air Pressure and How Your Body Feels

During the rainy season and typhoon season,

“My body feels sluggish.”

“My head feels heavy.”

“My neck and shoulders are stiff.”

“I can’t shake off my fatigue.”

Many people feel this way.

These kinds of discomfort are said to possibly be related to changes in air pressure and weather.

In the rainy season especially, low-pressure days continue one after another, which can easily disrupt the balance of the autonomic nervous system; some people experience headaches, stiff shoulders or lethargy.

Also, when you feel unwell due to changes in air pressure, your body may tense up without your realizing it, which can lead to tension around the neck and shoulders.

In recent years, discomfort caused by changes in air pressure and weather has sometimes been called “weather sensitivity” or “weather-related pain” (kisho-byo and tenki-tsu in Japanese), and it is being covered more and more often in the media.

On the other hand, symptoms and how they are felt vary from person to person, and the causes are varied as well.

For this reason, it is considered important to get enough sleep, exercise moderately and keep regular daily habits.

Consciously setting aside time to rest in a busy life and refreshing your mind and body is also part of looking after your condition.

Some of our guests at La HEAD also tell us that during the rainy season and typhoon season they feel a heavy head, tension in the neck and shoulders, and fatigue.

We cannot avoid changes in air pressure, but it may be worth paying attention to how your body is doing and making time to keep yourself in good condition each day.
